Hello, this is Saijuki Engineering.

Today we show a boom cylinder oil leak repair on a Komatsu PC30UU-5 excavator. This machine is from our own stock, and we found the leak during inspection. We repaired it right away.

Repair Method

Lower the boom cylinder to make it easier to work on.
Remove the head cap and pull out the rod.
The leak was caused by rust and scratches on the bushing, so we replace it.
Reassemble the cylinder and install it on the machine.
Refill the hydraulic oil, check operation, and the job is done.

Oil leaks from any cylinder must be repaired as soon as you find them. If you leave them and end up replacing the whole cylinder, the repair becomes very expensive. Take our advice and repair early.

Repair Details

First, to make the work easier, we remove the cover and lower the boom cylinder.
We pulled out the rod. Hydraulic oil is leaking, but a drip tray is placed underneath.
The piston and other seals looked like they had been replaced recently and were in good condition.
The cause was scratches and rust on the bushing inside the head cap. We replace the bushing and seals.
Overhaul complete.
