Komatsu PC30MR-5 Right Rear Cover Sheet Metal and Paint Repair

The machine seems to have hit something very hard, and the cover was badly dented. In this state, it would get in the way of scheduled maintenance.

The cover now opens and closes without any problem, and it looks as good as before.
Repair Details
Before the repair. Once opened, it would not close, and it would not open any further.
We remove the cover and take off the inner cushioning and reinforcement.
We hammer out the dents from the inside.
We use a gas torch to bring it roughly back into shape.
We check that the cover fits and opens and closes properly, then tack it in place.
We weld the removed reinforcement back on.

We forgot to photograph the surfacer step. After thorough surface preparation, we apply the top coat.

Today we show sheet metal and paint repair on the right rear cover of a Komatsu PC30MR-5 backhoe. The customer told us they had hit something very hard and asked us to repair it.
When we checked the machine, the cover, which is meant to open and close, could do neither. We started the repair right away.
Repair Method
What is surfacer?
Surfacer is a primer treatment applied before the top coat. It improves paint adhesion and color and also helps prevent rust. Saijuki Engineering applies surfacer in every paint repair.

Behind this cover are important parts such as the radiator, battery, oil cooler and air cleaner. If it is left as it is, it will certainly get in the way of scheduled maintenance. If you have time before your next maintenance, we recommend repairing it early.
