CAT 305E2CR Center Joint Internal Leak Repair
Repair Details
First, we lift the machine and drain the hydraulic oil.
With the cover removed, you can see the center joint from below.
Disconnecting the hydraulic hoses on the upper structure.
The center joint has been removed from the machine.
We remove the lock plate and disassemble it.
This is the inside of the center joint. Each step has its own seal, so hydraulic oil cannot flow into the other separated chambers. The center joint is what allows a hydraulic excavator to rotate 360 degrees.
Many seals are used in the center joint. If they are damaged, hydraulic oil escapes to places it should not go, and the machine no longer moves as expected.

Hello, this is Saijuki Engineering.
Today we show the overhaul of an internally leaking center joint (swivel joint) on a Caterpillar 305E2CR hydraulic excavator.
The customer asked us to inspect the machine and fix whatever was wrong. In fact, the blade could not hold the machine up. The blade cylinder and control valve were both fine, and the cause turned out to be an internal leak in the center joint.
Repair Method

As in this case, when the blade does not work properly, the cause may be the center joint rather than the cylinder. This part can only be checked by getting under the machine and disassembling further, so if the cylinder does not seem to be the problem, ask a repair shop to inspect the center joint.
