Hitachi ZX135US-6 Travel Motor Oil Leak Repair

We found oil leaking from the travel motor. The floating seal was worn. Floating seals are essential parts of the drive system on excavators: they keep the lubricating oil in and keep dirt and debris out. When this seal deteriorates, it affects the travel motor and the entire drive system, which can lead to expensive repairs and long downtime.

We carefully disassembled the ZX135US travel motor and removed the floating seal. After identifying the worn parts, we replaced them with new ones, then cleaned and checked the surrounding components.
Repair Details
As the photo after disassembly shows, the floating seal had deteriorated and was no longer working. Wear and cracks in the seal let lubricating oil leak out, which can damage the internal gears and bearings. There is also a risk of contamination: once dirt gets in, friction increases, which can cause abnormal wear or seizure of the power transmission parts.
After removal. We also clean the inside thoroughly.
It is not simply a matter of fitting the part. Even a slight misalignment can break the gears or cause a failure.
Even for an experienced mechanic, this is a moment that requires full concentration.

Background
We received an inquiry from Client A in Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture, stating, “There is an oil leak near the travel motor of our Hitachi ZX135US-6, and we need an urgent response.” Given their busy project schedule, they specifically requested to minimize downtime.
If left unaddressed, the oil leak would have progressed, inevitably damaging the travel motor and internal components, potentially requiring a full replacement of the assembly.
Through our prompt response and precise repairs, we minimized costs while restoring the machine’s performance to like-new condition.
